In a continued push to eliminate the drug menace from Punjab, the Punjab Police on Monday launched a massive search operation at 225 bus stands across the state as part of the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, now in its 38th day. The operation is aimed at disrupting drug trafficking and apprehend suspects.
Special DGP Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, supervised the operation, with over 200 police teams, including 1200 officers, conducting the search. A total of 2947 individuals were checked at bus stands, with additional raids carried out at 466 locations, leading to the arrest of 38 drug smugglers. Authorities also recovered 2.2 kg of heroin, 1.8 kg of opium, and Rs 17,600 in drug money from the suspects.
In total, the police have arrested 5239 smugglers since the campaign began on March 1. The operation involved checking 481 suspicious individuals and was conducted under strict supervision by senior officers.
Additionally, the police intensified their crackdown by conducting searches at jails across six districts, including Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Batala, Amritsar Rural, and Tarn Taran, to prevent illegal activities within prison premises.
The Punjab Police’s efforts align with the state government’s three-pronged strategy — Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP) — to tackle drug abuse comprehensively. As part of the de-addiction initiative, one individual has voluntarily entered rehabilitation for treatment.
The operation will continue as part of Punjab’s ongoing efforts to eradicate drug-related crimes and restore peace and safety to the state.
