In a bid to strengthen the leadership and management skills of educational leaders, the Punjab Government has partnered with the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, to offer a specialized Management Development Program (MDP) for the Principals of ITIs and Polytechnics across the state. This collaboration aims to enhance the academic and managerial performance of these institutions, ensuring that they meet the evolving demands of technical education.
Punjab Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday announced that a team of IIM-Ahmedabad experts will visit Punjab from February 12-15, 2025, to engage with stakeholders and fine-tune the training needs for the program. “We are working closely with IIM-Ahmedabad to develop this transformative program, which will not only elevate the quality of leadership in our technical institutions but also create Centres of Excellence in Punjab's technical education landscape,” Bains said.
As part of the initiative, 30 Principals from ITIs and Polytechnics, along with senior department officials, will undergo a five-day residential training at IIM-Ahmedabad. The program will feature 20 interactive sessions, led by renowned professors such as Prof Ambrish Dongre and Prof Neharika Vohra, focusing on enhancing leadership, strategic planning, conflict resolution, and team management skills. The program also aims to improve time management, communication strategies, and budgeting capabilities, empowering participants to lead their institutions effectively.
This program, aligned with the state's vision to upgrade its vocational education and skill development ecosystem, is expected to foster better industry collaborations, enhance skill development opportunities, and ultimately elevate the standard of technical education in Punjab.
