Public transport services to be further improved: CM

Tuesday, 01 April 2025 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced plans to strengthen the rural, urban, and intercity transportation systems in the state. To achieve this, the Mukhyamantri Sugam Transport Service will be introduced.

The proposal for this scheme has already been prepared, and after extensive discussions, suggestions, and consensus, it will soon be presented for approval in the Cabinet meeting.

Dr. Yadav made these remarks while addressing a high-level meeting at Samrat Bhavan, the Chief Minister's residence, regarding the initial discussions on the new transport service.

He emphasized that the transportation services in the state will be enhanced, especially in rural and tribal areas, ensuring smooth passenger transit. The government will make all necessary efforts to facilitate convenient travel in these regions.

The meeting was attended virtually by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Patel, Urban Development and Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, and Chief Secretary Anurag Jain. School Education and Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (CMO) Dr. Rajesh Rajora, Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development & Administration) Sanjay Kumar Shukla, Transport Secretary Manish Singh, CM's Secretary Sibi Chakravarti, and Director of Public Relations Anshul Gupta, along with other officials also attended the meeting.

Dr. Yadav directed officials to conduct an in-depth study of all aspects of the new transport scheme, ensuring maximum benefit to passengers.

Transport Secretary Manish Singh elaborated on the plan, stating that the new transport system will incorporate a three-tier monitoring mechanism for passenger bus operations in the state. A state-level holding company will be formed at the headquarters. Seven major divisions (Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar, and Rewa) will have regional assistant companies.

These committees will be established in all districts to improve passenger transport, regulate fares, design route charts, and ensure maximum benefits for passengers.

The plan includes specific arrangements for revenue generation for the seven regional assistant companies. The government will prioritize contracted buses by granting permits, ensuring effective control over operations.

Additionally, an app and a dashboard will be introduced for passenger convenience and monitoring by the company. A survey is being conducted in the seven major divisions to assess the required number of passenger buses. Once the survey results are available, the government will move forward with implementation.

The biggest beneficiaries of the new scheme will be passengers, ensuring a seamless travel experience. Bus operators will also receive a conducive business environment and continuous operations to prevent service disruptions and passenger inconvenience.
