In a decisive move to enhance tribal representation in state policy-making, the State government has constituted the Jharkhand Tribes Advisory Council (JTAC). Among its distinguished members is Potka MLA Sanjib Sardar, a well-known advocate for tribal rights, whose appointment is expected to significantly influence tribal policies in the state.
The council has been established with the primary objective of providing strategic suggestions for the social, economic, and cultural development of the Scheduled Tribes. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been designated the ex-officio chairman, while Minister Chamra Linda of the Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, and Backward Welfare Department holds the position of ex-officio vice-chairman. Their leadership is seen as pivotal in driving the council’s agenda for inclusive growth and welfare.
Sanjib Sardar’s inclusion in JTAC underscores his long-standing commitment to the tribal communities of Jharkhand. Known for his relentless efforts in advancing tribal welfare and rights, Sardar is expected to utilize his deep-rooted experience and extensive knowledge of local issues to give the tribal voice greater prominence in legislative discussions. “My lifelong dedication has been to ensure that the concerns of our tribal communities are not sidelined,” Sardar commented upon his appointment. “I am honored to have this opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive policy framework that truly reflects the needs of our people.”
Sardar’s appointment is widely perceived as a strategic step towards bridging the gap between tribal aspirations and governmental policy. His active involvement in tribal rights, along with his consistent advocacy for welfare schemes, has earned him respect both within and outside the legislative assembly. His role in JTAC is expected to foster better communication between the government and the tribal communities, ensuring that development initiatives are both effective and sensitive to the unique challenges faced by these groups.
In addition to Sanjib Sardar, the council comprises several other prominent legislators from the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. Notable members include Maheshpur Assembly MLA Prof. Stephen Marandi, Shikaripara MLA Alok Kumar Soren, Jama MLA and former minister Louis Marandi, former Chief Minister and BJP MLA from Saraikela Champai Soren, Jagannathpur MLA Sonaram Sinku, Manoharpur MLA Jagat Manjhi, Kharsawan MLA Dashasth Gagrai, as well as MLAs Sudeep Gudiya, Ram Surya Munda, Rajesh Kachhap, Jiga Susaran Horo, Naman Bixal Kongadi, and Ramchandra Singh. Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi is also part of the council, reinforcing the body’s stature. Additionally, nominated members Josai Mardi and Narayan Oraon further broaden the council’s representation, ensuring diverse perspectives in its deliberations.
