The Delhi Police on Friday claimed to identify and deport seven Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in different parts of the national Capital in a bid to address rising concerns over the unauthorized stay of migrants including Bangladeshi nationals in the capital.
In Southwest district, the police identified and deported two illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who had been residing in Safdarjung area of southwest Delhi. The husband-wife duo, identified as 54 year old Liyacat and 39 years old Nasreen, had been living in Delhi since 2012 and were native of Bangladesh’s Bagaerghat district.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Surendra Chaudhary said, “The police team was systematically briefed for day and night patrolling, ensuring effective vigilance and proactive measures against illegal activities. Team's dedication and efforts have led to the successful apprehension of two illegal Bangladeshi national husband-wife.”
He added that January 2, during patrolling, on the basis of secret information two illegal migrants were detained from Shamsham Ghat road in Green Park and their documents were collected and verified.“On interrogation, they revealed that both have been residing at different places in Delhi-NCR capital since 2012 and at present they were residing in Old Seelampur in Gandhi Nagar. Following thorough verification and interrogation, the necessary legal formalities were completed resulting in their deportation through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO),” the officer said.
In another case in southeast district, the police identified five Bangladeshi immigrants residing illegally in Sarita Vihar. The accused has been identified as Sheikh Sofiul Alam Sabbir, Md. Takdirul Khan, Bijoyohmod Sahi, Habibur Rahman and Md. Musa Miah Khan who had been arrested by the Illegal Immigrant Detection Team of South-East District on January 1.
“All these illegal staying Bangladeshi came to India on the pretext of visiting Bosnia Embassy for obtaining work permit visa. They were apprehended and produced before the FRRO for initiation of deportation proceedings,” DCP (South-east) Ravi Kumar Singh said.
He added that legal action has also been initiated against the owner of the guest house where the individuals were staying for failing to adhere to the mandatory provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946. “Compliance with these provisions is essential to ensure proper reporting and monitoring of foreign nationals staying in India. This operation is part of a broader drive launched on November 19, 2024, by the South-East District Police to identify illegal immigrants. Since the commencement of the drive, 14 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been identified and deported so far,” he stated.
