The Central Department of Land Resources has initiated the "NAKSHA" (National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations) program under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Program. This initiative aims to revolutionize the creation and management of urban land records by establishing an accurate and comprehensive geospatial database for urban land.
The program will integrate aerial and ground surveys with advanced GIS technology to enhance land administration, simplify property ownership records, and streamline urban planning. With precise geospatial data, decision-making will improve, land use planning will become more effective, and property-related transactions will be conducted with ease.
On February 18, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will inaugurate the "NAKSHA" program from Raisen district by launching a drone survey. They will also flag off the "Watershed Yatra" in the state. Madhya Pradesh’s Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development, Prahlad Singh Patel, and Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma will also attend the launch event.
The "NAKSHA" program is being introduced as a pilot project in 152 cities across the country, including 10 cities from 9 districts of Madhya Pradesh: Shahganj, Chhanera, Alirajpur, Depalpur, Dhar Kothi, Meghnagar, Makhan Nagar (Babai), Vidisha, Sanchi, and Unhel.
According to Commissioner of Land Records, Anubha Srivastava, the "NAKSHA" program is an initiative of the Department of Land Resources under the Union Ministry of Rural Development. Its primary objective is to modernize urban land surveys using advanced geospatial technology. The program represents a significant step toward making urban land management more transparent, efficient, and precise.
Key Features of the "NAKSHA" Program
The NAKSHA program includes Geospatial Mapping of Urban Areas utilization of modern land survey techniques, Support for Legal and Historical Data Analysis assisting in court cases and legal documentation, Accelerated and Efficient Urban Planning through accurate land data to enhance zoning, infrastructure development, and minimising delays in urban expansion. The NAKSHA Strengthens planning for urban resilience, Strengthens the financial standing of urban bodies by improving Property Tax collection facilitates smoother land and property dealings through simplified property transactions and loan approvals and Real-time digital systems will curb fraud, increase public trust in urban land management through enhanced governance and transparency, and Encourages investment & organized urban growth, and Boost to Real Estate & Infrastructure Development by implementing the "NAKSHA" program.
After implementing The NAKSHA program, urban governance will become more efficient, and the real estate & infrastructure sectors will gain significant momentum.
