MP Under-9 Chess Championship kicks off in Indore with over 100 participants
The Madhya Pradesh State Under-9 Chess Competition commenced at Indore Public School with enthusiastic participation from over 100 young players representing various districts across the state. The tournament is being held under the aegis of the Madhya Pradesh State Chess Ad-hoc Committee, with support from the Central Province Chess Association and the All Indore Chess Association.
The event was formally inaugurated with a ceremonial chess move by Ashima Pabale, former senior women’s MP State Chess champion, and Mrs. Sudha Pandey, Principal of Indore Public School. Other dignitaries present at the inauguration included Shailendra Pabale, Vivek Vishwakarma, Pankaj Tiwari, and Abhishek Gupta.
Players from key districts such as Bhopal, Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Katni, Mandsaur, Jabalpur, and Khandwa are participating in the tournament, which is being conducted in the Swiss League format across six rounds. The championship features both Open and Girls categories.
The top two players from each category will earn the opportunity to represent Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming National Under-9 Chess Championship.
After two rounds of play, internationally rated players such as Samridh Khare (Indore), Bhavya Agrawal (Bhopal), Riddesh Ayachit, and Ved Nair are leading in the boys’ category with two points each. In the girls’ category, Swasti Chauhan, Avika Rathore, Miray Maheshwari, Trisha Mishra, and Divyanshi Tarkiya are also at the top of the leaderboard with two points each.
Winners will be awarded trophies, medals, certificates, and a cash prize pool of Rs 12,000. The tournament is being conducted under the leadership of FIDE Arbiter Yash Tulapurkar, supported by the organizing team comprising Dinesh Gupta, Dipti Kapadia, Nikhil Mahajan, and Kuldeep Singh.
The competition is expected to conclude with thrilling rounds as young chess talents battle for the state title and a chance to compete on the national stage.
