Medicant Hospital, Bokaro, has achieved significant advancements in medical care. In the radiology department, Dr. Rahul Raj and his team at MHRC successfully performed DWIBS (Diffusion-Weighted Imaging with Background Suppression) on three patients, a technique rarely used in India. Medicant Hospital is the first to adopt DWIBS for follow-ups instead of PET-CT, offering a more affordable and accessible alternative for oncology and infection diagnosis through whole-body imaging.
The hospital has also made notable progress in orthopedic and joint replacement surgery. Dr. Alok Kumar Singh, Consultant in Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgery, successfully performed the hospital’s first total hip replacement procedure. The patient, an 85-year-old man from Bhagalpur, Bihar, had been bedridden for two months due to a hip fracture (fracture neck of femur). He was able to walk within 18 hours post-surgery. In another case, a 100-year-old female patient with an intertrochanteric hip fracture was treated using proximal femoral nailing. She, too, regained mobility within 20 hours post-operation. Both patients recovered well and were discharged in good health, expressing their satisfaction with the treatment.
