The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) removed more than one lakh political advertisement from across its 12 zones on Wednesday in view of the Model Code of Conduct which has been enforced in view of the Delhi assembly elections.
The Election Commission of India announced the schedule of elections on Tuesday with voting scheduled to take place on February 5 and counting on February 8. Abiding by the Election Commission’s order, the MCD has removed 1,26,186 political advertisements in the national Capital, the civic body informed in its statement.
The MCD has removed 13,496 hoardings, 1,03,687 posters, banners and wall paintings, 1,158 signages and boards and 7,845 flags, according to an official document.
As per the directives of the Model Code of Conduct invoked by the Election Commission, any kind of poster, hoarding or banner in a public place which promotes any political party or leader has to be removed within 24 hours of the announcement of election schedule.
In its 12 zone, the maximum political advertisements were removed in South zone with 20,479 of such advertisements, followed by 19,892 in Civil Line zone, 18,821 in Shahdara North zone, 12,312 in Shahdara South zone, 12,185 in West zone, 9,029 in Narela zone, 8,390 in Najafgarh zone, 8,261 in City-SP zone, 6,807 in Karol Bagh zone, 4,845 in Central zone, 4,374 in Rohini zone, and 791 in Keshvampurm zone.
