As the city readies to host the Global Investors Summit, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is leaving no stone unturned to improve sanitary conditions, with both the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner closely monitoring various ongoing projects.

On Saturday, Mayor Malti Rai visited Sheetaldas Ki Baghia and Vardhman Park to assess ongoing repair and beautification efforts. During the inspection, she emphasised the collective responsibility of keeping the city's ghats clean and beautiful. Rai provided specific instructions to ensure the area’s upkeep, including improving cleanliness, removing illegal encroachments, and levelling open spaces to prevent further occupation.

The Mayor also directed the removal of obstructive illegal kiosks near the main entrance, the construction of changing rooms for women, and the painting of beautiful murals to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area. At Vardhman Park, Rai instructed the removal of tin-sheet roofing and the relocation of an old gate to the Sheetaldas Ki Baghia premises. Furthermore, she directed the clearing of unnecessary items near the park’s boundary wall and the removal of illegal tin sheds near shops at the park gate.

The Mayor's focus on safety was evident as she also proposed the installation of railings and ramps at the ghat. She urged boat operators to be mindful of their boats’ placement to prevent damage to the ghats' stairs and tiles.

Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan reviewed the city’s cleanliness efforts, aiming to ensure that Bhopal meets the standards required for the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings.

Narayan inspected various areas, including Subhash Nagar, Ashoka Garden, Rail Coach Factory, Rajendra Nagar, Bharat Talkies, and New Market.

During the visit, the Commissioner issued strict orders to remove illegally placed cutouts, banners, posters, and pamphlets across the city, particularly from roadsides, electric poles, and central verges. He instructed the immediate clearance of garbage piles and soil accumulations and directed strong action against businesses, including liquor stores, responsible for littering the streets with plastic cups, wrappers, and other waste. In addition, Narayan emphasised the importance of regular cleaning and maintenance of side verges and central verges, ensuring they remain free from debris and dust.
