Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, on Sunday, questioned the government on the notice issued by the Railways to declare Ambedkar Community Bhawan in Agra as encroachment and remove it within 15 days.
The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh asked whether this was the government’s love for Ambedkar?
She was reacting to the Railways’ notice declaring Ambedkar Community Bhawan located near Barakhamba Railway Gate in Agra as an encroachment and issuing a directive to get it demolished.
BSP chief Mayawati posted on X and about this matter: “There is a lot of anger and resentment among the people due to the action of removing ‘Ambedkar Bhawan’ near Barakhamba Railway Gate in Agra, UP, which has been associated with social welfare and public welfare activities for decades, by calling it encroachment and people are also saying that is this the government’s love for Ambedkar?”
Mayawati further wrote: “In such a situation, the Central government is requested to take immediate cognisance of such anti-Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar act and also take appropriate action. It is hoped that the government will definitely take positive steps.”
Meanwhile, MP from Nagina, Chandrashekhar Azad, has also written a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav regarding this matter. The Nagina MP wrote in his letter: “Railway Administration, North Central Railway, Agra’s office, Senior Section Engineer (Works), Idgah has issued a notice to declare Ambedkar Bhawan (near gate number 75A, Barakhamba) as encroachment and remove it within 15 days through letter No. C1/3, dated: 11.03.2025. This building has been used for years for social justice, educational and cultural activities, and protection of the interests of Bahujan samaj. In such a situation, declaring it as encroachment and taking action to remove it is not only unfair, but also injustice to the deprived sections of the society.”
Along with this, Chandrashekhar Azad wrote, “This building is located at the place where it was built for public interest half a century ago by filling the existing pits. It is not just a structure, but the centre of socio-cultural consciousness and uplift of the Bahujan society. Therefore, any attempt to remove it by declaring it encroachment will not only be a historical injustice, but will also show neglect towards the backward and Dalit sections of society. This building has been built for public use in the interest of the society. Therefore, we request the railway administration to look into this matter sympathetically and keep in mind the social importance of this building before taking any decision.”
