Livelihood Knowledge Centers launched in villages to empower rural youth

Wednesday, 16 April 2025 | PNS | Indore

In a significant step towards promoting education and knowledge accessibility at the grassroots level, Livelihood Knowledge Centers have been inaugurated in villages under the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission. These village-level libraries, launched as part of the Gyan Daan Abhiyan, aim to support rural youth in preparing for competitive examinations by providing free access to relevant study materials.

The first of these centers have been established in Gotampura village of Depalpur block and Tillor Khurd village in Indore district, with the initiative spearheaded by women’s self-help group federations associated with the Livelihood Mission. The centers are fully operated and managed by the most educated members of the local groups, and are run entirely through donations of books, materials, and voluntary support.

These libraries will offer the latest books on competitive exams, employment newspapers, general knowledge magazines, and other resources useful for aspiring candidates and school-going students. The initiative reflects a powerful convergence of community-led development and educational empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion, Siddharth Jain, Chief Executive Officer, District Panchayat Indore, highlighted that the women involved in the Rural Livelihood Mission are not only advancing their economic independence through savings and group loans but are also taking on meaningful social responsibilities. He said these women are igniting a “new light of education” in their villages through the establishment of these centers.

He further stated that the success of the Livelihood Knowledge Centers in Gotampura and Tillor Khurd will pave the way for similar libraries to be opened in other villages across the district with public cooperation. The initiative is being supported by local public representatives, government officers, employees, bankers, and community members, who are contributing books, materials, and financial assistance.

The centers were inaugurated in the presence of self-help group members, local leaders, and officials, marking a community-driven movement to bridge the educational gap in rural areas and inspire the youth to pursue greater opportunities through learning.
