Tata Zoo has welcomed the birth of two leopard cubs and a male Mandrill monkey, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing wildlife conservation efforts.
The leopard cubs were born to a pair of leopards recently brought to Tata Zoo from Nagpur Zoo as part of an animal exchange program, strengthening collaborative conservation initiatives. The cubs remain closely attached to their mother, and their sex is yet to be determined.
In another remarkable development, a male Mandrill monkey (Mandrillus sphinx) was also born at the zoo. Mandrills, known for their striking facial coloration and complex social structures, are classified as a vulnerable species. Tata Zoo had earlier acquired Mandrills from a renowned zoological facility in Israel and has since contributed to conservation efforts by donating them to other zoos, including Green ZRRC in Jamnagar, North West Bengal Safari in Siliguri, and Tirupati Zoo.
“This is a joyous moment for us and reflects our consistent efforts toward conservation, biodiversity preservation, and exceptional animal care,” said a Tata Zoo spokesperson. “The successful birth of these leopard cubs further strengthens our commitment to wildlife conservation and highlights the positive impact of collaborative programs between zoos.”
The newborns and their mothers are under close observation by the zoo’s expert caretakers and veterinarians to ensure their well-being and healthy development. Tata Zoo continues to uphold the highest standards of animal care, focusing on scientific management and sustainable conservation practices.
