Labourer dies after fall at construction site in Ayodhya Ngr, family alleges negligence

Monday, 14 April 2025 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

A 28-year-old construction labourer died after falling from an under-construction two-storey building in Ayodhya Nagar on Saturday afternoon, raising serious concerns about safety standards at construction sites.

The deceased, identified as Raju Mansuri, was reportedly working without any safety gear when the accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. According to initial reports, Mansuri lost his balance while working at a height and suffered fatal injuries from the fall.

His brother, Mohammad Javed, alleged that the contractors—Jahangir Ansari and Ali Ansari—forced Mansuri to work at a dangerous height without providing necessary safety equipment. He further claimed that following the incident, Mansuri’s body was brought home around 3:00 p.m., but the police delayed action on the family’s complaint.

Frustrated by the lack of prompt response from authorities, Javed said the family was made to shuttle between Ayodhya Nagar police station, Piplani police station, and local hospitals in an attempt to lodge a complaint and initiate formalities.

The family has demanded strict legal action against the contractors and financial compensation for their loss. Javed also revealed that Mansuri had recently secured a job in Dubai and was scheduled to leave for the Gulf country on May 26, a plan that had given the family hope for a better future. His untimely death has left them devastated.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Officials said that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report is received. The body was handed over to the family after a preliminary medical examination.

While the police maintain that the case is being investigated, the family continues to allege that gross negligence and violation of safety norms by the contractors led to the fatal accident. They are pressing for immediate accountability to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The incident has once again brought to light the alarming lack of safety protocols at construction sites, where labourers often work in hazardous conditions without adequate protective gear or training.
