Former Jharkhand Chief Secretary L. Khiangte has been named the new Chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). The state government proposed his appointment, which was swiftly approved by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Thursday.
The Governor expressed confidence that Khiangte’s appointment would expedite the recruitment process in the state, ensuring that JPSC examinations are conducted as per a fixed schedule. He also stressed that the commission’s operations would become more transparent and efficient under the new leadership.
The JPSC Chairman’s post had remained vacant for six months following the retirement of Dr. Mary Neelima Kerketta on August 22, 2024. After a long wait, the commission now has a new leader in place.
Several student groups have been protesting against the delay in appointment of JPSC Chairman for a long time stating that the delay is proving detrimental to their career prospects.
