Kejriwal allowed Yamuna to get polluted, forced Delhiites to drink its water: Shah

Friday, 31 January 2025 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday alleged that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of poisoning Yamuna as he sensed his party's imminent defeat in the assembly polls because he allowed the river to get polluted and forced people of Delhi to drink its water.  Shah termed Kejriwal's accusation against the Haryana government "petty politics" and alleged the AAP government could not fulfil Kejriwal's promise of cleaning the Yamuna during its 10-year rule due to "corruption".  The union minister held three public meetings in Rohini, Ashok Vihar and New Delhi and a road show in Shalimar Bagh.

“With people asking what happened to fulfilling his promise of making the Yamuna clean like the Thames river in London, Kejriwal is making an "excuse" by falsely accusing the BJP government in Haryana of mixing poison in the river, Shah charged while addressing a public meeting in the Rohini Assembly constituency in support of Vijendra Gupta.

Shah alleged corruption in use of money meant for cleaning Yamuna river during the AAP's rule, as he exhorted people to dislodge the Kejriwal-led party from power in Delhi.

"Kejriwal is making (such) excuses because he gave away the money meant for cleaning Yamuna to AAP's corruption," Shah charged, adding, "Kejriwal is resorting to such petty politics sensing his (party's) defeat in the election."

Shah alleged that it's the AAP government under Kejriwal's leadership which allowed Yamuna to get polluted and forced people of Delhi to drink its water. “Kejriwal’s defeat is inevitable and even he knows it. This is why Kejriwal has now resorted to distractions, such as accusing the Haryana government of poisoning Delhi’s water supply,” he said, accusing the AAP supremo of using fear-mongering tactics and engaging in petty politics by misleading Delhiites.

Warning the public, Shah said that both Congress and AAP are two sides of the same coin, deeply entrenched in corruption. He pointed out that when Rahul Gandhi criticized Kejriwal, Kejriwal immediately retaliated by targeting the Congress over the National Herald case. He advised voters to steer clear of both parties.

Calling him the ‘most deceitful politician’ in Indian history, he added, “In his 10-year tenure, Kejriwal has told so many lies that even he wouldn’t remember them all. Hence, the people of Delhi should ensure that on February 5, they send Kejriwal and his party into political exile and crown the BJP in Delhi.”

He urged the people of Rohini to recognize that February 5 presents a major opportunity—to free themselves from Kejriwal’s 'AAPda’ (disaster). He accused Kejriwal’s government of being one built on ‘lies, deception, and broken’ promises, and called February 5 a historic day for Delhi residents, as they will get a chance to uproot the Kejriwal government. He appealed to the people not to miss this opportunity.

Shah remarked that Kejriwal's scams are so numerous that if one starts counting them, the election will be over before the list is completed. On this occasion, Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-oriented policies, highlighting that under Modi’s leadership, India has achieved remarkable progress.

"February 5 is an opportunity for the people of Delhi to oust 'AAP-da,' and give mandate to the BJP. The BJP will make Delhi number one capital," he told the gathering.
