Corrugated safety barriers along the metro construction site at Karond will be removed as soon as pillars are installed, Minister Vishwas Sarang said during a site visit on Thursday.
Sarang, who also represents the area in the state assembly, inspected Karond Square with officials from the Metro Corporation, Municipal Corporation, PWD, and Police, directing them to ensure public safety and swift progress.
Work on the 8.77 km Orange Line stretch from Subhash Nagar to Karond has entered a new phase with pillar installation now underway. The barriers will remain until this stage is complete.
The project has a total outlay of Rs 1,540 crore and includes a 3.39 km underground segment. Corrugated sheets running along the central median have caused difficulties for traders, pedestrians and commuters navigating the busy route.
To ease congestion, Minister Sarang instructed officials to remove a duct at Karond Square and relocate street vendors to alternative areas to ease traffic pressure. He also called for a timeline-based work calendar.
Six elevated metro stations will come up between Subhash Nagar and Karond over 5.38 km, at a cost of Rs 650 crore.
These stations will be located at Pul Bogda, Aishbagh, Sindhi Colony, DIG Bungalow, Krishi Upaj Mandi, and Karond. Work on this elevated stretch is expected to stretch over the next three and a half years.
