JMM has announced to oppose the current format for delimitation to be held after 2026. After the announcement of JMM, its allies in Jharkhand, Congress and RJD have also supported JMM on this issue and have announced to oppose the current draft of delimitation. On the issue of delimitation, BJP has accused Congress of adopting double standards. Attacking Congress, BJP said that when delimitation was done in the country in 2008, whose government was it then and why did it get the delimitation done then?
On the issue of delimitation, Congress's state media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said that in fact, BJP's intention is to reduce the seats reserved for tribals and Dalits in the country on the pretext of delimitation, so that their political power is reduced. He said that along with this, BJP's intention is to change the Constitution of Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The Constitution mandates a maximum of 550 Lok Sabha members, but in the current format of delimitation, the number of Lok Sabha seats will increase to 846.
Like the Congress, RJD is also with its ally Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on the issue of delimitation. State RJD vice-president Anita Yadav said that RJD also opposes delimitation in the current format. She said that it seems that the BJP has prepared the current format keeping in mind its long-term political benefits. She said that if delimitation is implemented in the current format, it will reduce the political power of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe society.
Reacting to JMM's opposition on the issue of delimitation of Lok Sabha seats after 2026, BJP state spokesperson Pradeep Sinha said that JMM is a regional party, it can protest like this on many issues, but if Congress, being a national party, opposes delimitation, then they will have to explain why it got the delimitation done when there was a Congress government in Delhi in the year 2008 when the delimitation took place. The BJP leader said that the Congress will have to answer the public for its double character.
JMM has already decided to oppose the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats after 2026 in the current format. JMM Working President cum Chief Minister Hemant Soren will go to Chennai on March 22 to attend the meeting called by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to formulate further strategy on this.
