India wins bronze medal infirst Asian Para Throw Ball Championship

The Indian team bagged the bronze medal in the first Asian Para Throw Ball Championship held in Cambodia from 26 to 30 March 2025 under the aegis of the Para Throw Ball Federation of Asia.

It is known that eight countries including India participated in the competition. In the final, Cambodia's team defeated Sri Lanka to become the Asian champion while Sri Lanka had to be content with the silver medal. The Indian team had to face defeat from Sri Lanka in a close match in the semi-finals. The Indian team will reach Chennai tonight from where the players of Jharkhand will leave for Ranchi.

A total of 12 Divyang players from Jharkhand were included in the 20-member Indian team.

Mukesh Kanchan (Captain) Sanoj Mahato, Mukesh Kumar Mahato, Pawan Lakra, Rajesh Kumar Mehta in the men's category and Pratima Tirkey, Anita Tirkey, Mahima Oraon, Sanjukta Ekka, Pushpa Minj, Asunta Toppo, Taramani Lakra in the women's category.

Para Throw Ball Federation of India President Dr Albert Prem Kumar said that the lack of practice together was the reason for the Indian team's defeat while the local team took advantage of the available facilities and won the gold medal.

Paralympic Committee Jharkhand President Kamal Agarwal, who was with the team as a manager, said that at the international level, apart from sports, other challenges have to be faced. Food is the main one in this. International experience will make the team stronger.

Jharkhand Disabled Cricket Association President Rahul Mehta, Paralympic Association of Jharkhand Secretary Sarita Sinha, Vice President Peter Tirkey, social worker Jagdish Singh Jaggu, Sanju Kumari, Shivrani Kumari, Aryan, Jharkhand Divyangjan Forum, along with many Divyangjan players and their organizations congratulated the Indian team.
