The Congress, which had seven councillors, is now left with six while the number of BJP councillors has increased to 16 and the AAP-Congress alliance’s tally has dropped to 20.
Talking to Reporters, Gurbaksh Rawat said that she had already decided to join the BJP, being influenced by the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party's working style. Senior Chandigarh Congress leaders have termed the defection of Rawat to the BJP just 3 days before the Mayoral election as a betrayal of people, who elected her thrice on the strength of policies and programs of the Congress party.
