he beginning of April is likely to bring some relief from the rising temperatures as a possibility of rain, thunderstorm along with hailstorm is being predicted for different parts of the State.
Due to the impact of western disturbances, an alert for showers and thunderstorms have been issued for six states in the northern parts of the country. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Jharkhand as well stating that the weather in the State is expected to change from April 2 with chances for rain, thunderstorms and lighting for three consecutive days.
The bulletin released by the Meteorological Centre Ranchi on March 31 stated an orange alert for April 2 signifying rain and thunderstorms accompanied with strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour for the western and adjoining areas of the State. These include Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Koderma, Hazaribag, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum.
An orange alert for April 3 highlighted that the southern and adjacent central parts of Jharkhand are likely to witness hail and thunderstorm as well as gusty winds with a speed of approximately 50 to 60 km per hour. The north western and north central parts of Jharkhand may experience thunderstorms and strong winds of around 40 to 50 km per hour.
An orange alert for April 4 has also been issued. The south eastern, adjoining central and north eastern parts of Jharkhand are predicted to witness hailstorm, and thunderstorm as well gusty winds with a speed of around 50 to 60 km per hour. There is also a possibility of thunderstorm and strong winds of around 40 to 50 km per hour for the south western and north central parts of the State
For April 4, the districts of Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, West Singhbhum, Khunti, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Saraikela- Kharsawan, East Singhbhum, Jamtara, Deoghar Dumka, Pakur, Godda and Sabihganj may be affected.
“There is moisture incoming from the Bay of Bengal and the temperature is also in the required range for thunderstorm and lighting activities. In this season, with the temperature rising and the incoming moisture, severe thunder clouds are formed thereby increasing the chances of hail and strong winds. An orange alert has been issued for three days as the thunderstorm and lighting may be severe at some places,” said Director MET Centre, Ranchi, Abhishek Anand.
