A day after the body of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) Chief Engineer Vimal Negi was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday announced an inquiry into his death by an Additional Chief Secretary-level officer. However, the Opposition, led by former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing serious concerns over workplace pressure.
Negi had been missing since March 10, triggering a massive search operation. His body was found on Tuesday, deepening the mystery surrounding his disappearance. His family and colleagues have alleged an “unhealthy work environment” at HPPCL, hinting at possible workplace harassment or undue pressure.
Sukhu, addressing the Vidhan Sabha, assured that strict action would be taken if anyone was found responsible. However, Leader of Opposition Thakur insisted on a CBI inquiry, arguing, “There are reports that he was under intense pressure. We need an independent probe to uncover the truth and ensure justice.”
