Heatwave conditions sizzled Jharkhand with the mercury crossing 40 degrees Celsius in seven districts, officials said on Sunday. Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district registered the state's highest temperature at 41 degrees Celsius, 7.6 notches above the normal, on Saturday, they said.
Daltonganj recorded 40.7 degrees Celsius, while the weather station in Bokaro Thermal registered 40.1. Jamshedpur in East Singhbhum recorded 40 degrees Celsius, which was 6.4 degrees higher than the normal, while state capital Ranchi registered 37 degrees Celsius, 6.1 notches above the normal.
However, for respite the weather is likely to change in next few days. According to Abhishek Anand, scientist of Meteorological Center Ranchi, there are chances of change in weather from March 17. On Monday, most of the districts of the state may remain partly cloudy and there is every possibility of the weather remaining dry. The sky will remain mostly clear on March 18 as well. The weather will remain dry. The Meteorological Department has said that the change in weather from March 17 is going to gradually change to light to moderate rain. There is a possibility of rain at some places in the south-eastern part of the state on March 19.
The districts where rain has been predicted include East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, Saraikela-Kharsawan, besides districts like Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka and Giridih. Light to moderate rain will also occur on 20 and 21 March. Light to moderate rain for three days after 4 days of intense heat can cause a drop in maximum temperature by 5 degrees Celsius. The highest maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius has been recorded in Chaibasa. At the same time, the lowest minimum temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius has been recorded in Khunti.
