Amid concerns over poor design and construction quality of the newly opened Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Flyover in the state capital, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Works Department, Neeraj Mandloi, inspected the project on Saturday.
During the inspection, deficiencies were identified in the quality of the 18-inch wide strip between the crash barriers and the main carriageway, with signs of erosion visible at several joints.
In response to these issues, the Public Works Department suspended Assistant Engineer Umakant Mishra and In-charge Assistant Engineer Ravi Shukla for negligence. The department also issued show-cause notices to Executive Engineer Javed Shakeel and CE Bridge.
The construction company has been instructed to pay a fine and carry out corrective measures at its own expense. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) suggested improvements to the design gaps and surface quality during the inspection.
The Minister for Public Works, Rakesh Singh, emphasised that the department will prioritise quality in all future projects and warned against negligence.
