State Welfare Minister Chamra Linda on Wednesday said that the government is committed to the preservation and promotion of the tribal culture of Jharkhand. The state-level tribal painter camp is being organized with the aim of preserving the tribal art and culture of Jharkhand and displaying the glorious history of tribal freedom fighters through paintings. He was inaugurating the state-level tribal painter camp at Dr. Ram Dayal Munda Tribal Welfare Research Institute Campus, Morabadi, Ranchi on Wednesday. This historic event is being organized under the joint aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and the Government of Jharkhand.

Linda said that the struggle of the tribal freedom fighters of Jharkhand is a symbol of our identity and inspiration. It is very important to convey their saga of bravery to the people through art. Through this painter camp, we have got an opportunity to revive the bravery of those brave fighters. Also, the tribal society of Jharkhand has always been known for its art, culture and struggle. The talent of the artists here is amazing, and this camp will provide a platform to those artists so that they can cherish history through their art.

This year the historical celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Birsa Munda is being celebrated. On this occasion, this four-day tribal painter camp (29 January to 1 February 2025) has been organized for the painting of the brave tribal freedom fighters of Jharkhand. The main objective of this camp is to bring alive the struggle and contribution of tribal freedom fighters associated with the Veerbhoomi of Jharkhand like Birsa Munda, Sidhu-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Tilka Manjhi, Veer Budhu Bhagat, Nilambar-Pitambar and other immortal warriors through paintings.

Senior and young tribal painters from every corner of Jharkhand are participating in this camp. The participating artists will bring alive the stories of the great heroes of the freedom struggle through their paintings. Various styles of painting, such as Sohrai, Kohbar, Pithora, Gond, Warli and other tribal art forms will be used, which will also strengthen the rich art tradition of Jharkhand.

At the end of the camp, all the paintings will be presented in the form of a special exhibition, in which paintings related to the freedom struggle of Jharkhand will be displayed. There is a plan to install these paintings in various government offices, museums and public places of Jharkhand, so that the coming generations can be aware of their history.

Linda also announced that the Jharkhand government will provide all possible support to the tribal artists of the state. He said that the government is working on many schemes to get the tribal artists of the state recognized at the national and international level.

Special enthusiasm was seen in the tribal society regarding this event. Representatives of many communities, artists, researchers and students also attended this camp. Everyone appreciated this effort and said that this event will prove to be a milestone in giving a new identity to the glorious tradition of Jharkhand.

This four-day camp will conclude on 1 February 2025. The best painters will be given special honor and reward in the closing ceremony. Also, a plan has been made by the Jharkhand government to officially preserve these paintings.

This state-level tribal painter camp organized on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Birsa Munda will give a new identity to the sagas of freedom fighters of Jharkhand. It will not only serve to preserve the cultural heritage of Jharkhand, but will also provide a new platform to tribal painters. Such events will continue to be held in the future to save the invaluable heritage of tribal society.
