A district-level peace committee convened at the Collectorate building on Sunday, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Jamuar, to ensure the peaceful observation of the Ram Navami, Eid, and Sarhul festivals.
During the meeting, both the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police underscored the significance of celebrating Ram Navami in a spirit of harmony. They welcomed the peace committee members and initiated the proceedings. They also emphasised the necessity of celebrating Eid and Sarhul in a peaceful environment, promoting mutual understanding and brotherhood.
Members of the peace committee, representing various blocks, presented updates on the celebrations of past festivals. They assured the district administration that no disruptive incidents had occurred in the Garhwa district previously. They confirmed that people of all castes and religions have consistently celebrated every festival with mutual respect and harmony, and they pledged to continue celebrating each other's festivals with mutual cooperation and coordination.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the relevant Executive Engineers to guarantee the provision of electricity, healthcare services, and potable water during the festivals. The district fire station was instructed to maintain full readiness. The Executive Officers of Nagar Parishad Garhwa, Nagar Panchayat Nagar Untari, and Manjhiaon were directed to ensure adequate cleanliness in their respective jurisdictions. A resolution was passed to prohibit the sale of meat and alcohol during Ram Navami. Furthermore, in compliance with the directives of the Honourable Supreme Court and High Court, the use of DJs was completely prohibited during the aforementioned festivals. Instead, the use of various traditional musical instruments and sound systems is permitted.
The Superintendent of Police urged that any information concerning anti-social elements or the spread of rumours should be promptly reported to senior officers or the nearest police station, to ensure the peaceful celebration of the festivals and to enable decisive action against any disruptive elements. The Superintendent of Police requested everyone's cooperation and encouraged them to inform the administration of any untoward incidents during the festivals. He also appealed to the public to avoid disseminating rumours on social media and to refrain from posting any offensive content. He stated that the administration's cyber cell would continuously monitor social media posts throughout the festivals. The Superintendent of Police announced that traffic management measures would be implemented during the Mangala procession and the Ram Navami procession, with a prohibition on the entry of large vehicles into the towns. He extended his best wishes to everyone for Ram Navami, Eid, and Sarhul, appealing for the peaceful celebration of the festivals in a spirit of mutual brotherhood.
