Food minister reviews department functioning

Delhi’s Food and Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, on Monday  reviewed the overall functioning of the department.

The review focused on the ongoing initiatives to improve the efficiency and transparency of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the national capital.

During the meeting, officials made a presentation before the Minister regarding the functioning and performance of the department.

Sirsa was apprised on the department’s efforts to enhance the visibility and identity of Fair Price Shops (FPS).

As part of the initiative to improve public outreach, the department is working on the branding of FPS outlets through standardised signage, banners, and display boards.

These efforts are being made to ensure better awareness among the public regarding the services offered at the FPS.

The Minister was also informed about the e-KYC implementation for ration cardholders.

The “Mera e-KYC” mobile app has been successfully rolled out, enabling beneficiaries to complete their e-KYC verification remotely.

The officials informed that already approx. 1.9 Lakh e-KYC has already been done till date.  In addition, the Minister was informed about the ongoing work towards the modernisation of the Public Distribution System (PDS) under the SMART-PDS scheme.

This initiative will leverage technology to standardise operations, integrate various government bodies, and implement data analytics to improve decision-making.

The modernisation of PDS will significantly enhance the system’s efficiency and transparency.

During the meeting, Sirsa also highlighted the significant steps taken by the central government to support citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He remarked, “In the tough of COVID pandemic Prime Minister Modi led government provided double ration supplies under PMGKY scheme to support those facing hardships.

This was a crucial step to ensure no one went hungry during those difficult times.

The Delhi government has always been committed to ensuring that no eligible ration beneficiary in the capital is deprived of their rightful benefits, and we continue to work tirelessly to improve the system and make it more accessible for everyone.”

Sirsa emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring that no eligible individual is deprived of their ration benefits and that continuous improvements are being made to the PDS infrastructure.
