In a proactive measure to ensure public safety during the upcoming Holi celebrations, the district administration has deployed a fleet of 108 ambulances at six strategic locations in the city. These ambulances will be operational from March 14 to March 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM onwards, to respond to any medical emergencies arising during the festival. The decision aims to mitigate health risks, provide swift emergency response, and handle any untoward incidents that may occur due to the large-scale public gatherings during the festival.
As part of this initiative, Ranjit Kumar Panda, District RCH Officer, has been appointed as the nodal officer to oversee the operations and ensure smooth coordination of emergency services. The administration is emphasizing a quick response mechanism for medical emergencies, which is crucial during a festival known for heightened activity, increased road traffic, and potential incidents of intoxication-related mishaps.
According to the official directive, the ambulances will be stationed at the following six locations across Jamshedpur: Sakchi Golchakkar – Ambulance No. JH01FL-4094, driven by Aakash (Contact: 7004581069), Mango Chowk – Ambulance No. JH07TR7340, driven by Krishna Mahato (Contact: 9334997761), IDSP Office Chowk – Ambulance No. JH01FL-3380, driven by Kanchan Gop (Contact: 8084408407), Bistupur Post Office Chowk – Ambulance No. JH01CJ6832, driven by Khagendra Nath Soren (Contact: 9065344961), Kadma Rankini Mandir – Ambulance No. JH01FL-9798, driven by Unnjal Dey (Contact: 7992444101) and Jugsalai railway crossing– Ambulance No. JH01CJ-8234, driven by Bhola Nath Mahato (Contact: 8877784229)
The decision to deploy these ambulances at high-density locations in the city was taken after analyzing past incidents that occurred during Holi celebrations. Over the years, the festival has witnessed an increase in cases of accidents, intoxication-related health issues, minor injuries, and even medical emergencies due to excessive revelry. Given the high footfall in areas like Sakchi, Mango, Bistupur, Kadma, and Jugsalai, the administration has ensured that all deployed ambulances are equipped with first-aid facilities, oxygen support, paramedics, and emergency medicines to provide immediate relief to patients before they are transferred to hospitals if needed.
In addition to medical support, the district health department has urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and avoid reckless driving, overconsumption of alcohol, and hazardous activities. Authorities have also warned of strict action against those found violating safety norms.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ranjit Panda stated, “Our primary objective is to ensure that no life is lost due to delayed medical assistance. Holi is a festival of joy, but it often leads to accidents, especially road mishaps and intoxication-related issues. By deploying 108 ambulances at key locations, we want to ensure that people have immediate access to emergency medical support.”
The local police department, in coordination with health officials, will also be monitoring traffic and crowd movement in high-risk areas to minimize the chances of accidents. Residents have been advised to use helpline numbers in case of medical emergencies and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable Holi celebration.
