DJ at BJP leader’s house seized for loud music

Sunday, 02 February 2025 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

A DJ playing loud music late at night at a BJP leader’s house in Nehru Nagar was seized by the administration, and a case was registered following a complaint about noise pollution. The action was taken by SDM Archana Sharma after receiving information about the violation.

The incident took place on Friday night in the Nehru Nagar Pahadi area, where a Mehndi ceremony was being held. The DJ was playing the song "Jhoom Le, Jhoom Le, Maje Mein Jhoom Le" at a high volume when SDM Sharma arrived at the scene.

Upon questioning, a woman identified herself as Asha Valmiki, a BJP worker and Mandal General Secretary associated with MLA Bhagwandas Sabnani. SDM Sharma confronted her about violating the district’s 10 p.m. deadline for loud music. Following a brief exchange, officials seized the DJ equipment and registered a case.

The action comes after strict instructions from Minister in Charge Chaitanya Kashyap, who directed authorities to enforce noise control regulations in Bhopal. During a meeting on Friday ahead of the upcoming Global Investors Summit (GIS), Kashyap instructed the Collector to ensure strict action against loudspeakers and DJs.

In response, district officials have intensified inspections across the city. With Vasant Panchami falling on February 3 and numerous weddings scheduled, the administration has launched a crackdown on high-volume music at pre-wedding ceremonies. Additionally, with ongoing board exams, more than 90 loudspeakers have already been removed, as per Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh’s directives.

As per recent orders, the use of loudspeakers and sound systems is prohibited from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., except in cases of public emergencies. Sound systems at events must be licensed, and only one unit may be used at a time. Violators will face penalties and equipment confiscation under the Madhya Pradesh Noise Control Act of 1985.

Authorities have warned that the crackdown will continue, with teams remaining active over the weekend to ensure compliance.
