Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands Marisa Gerards on Tuesday inaugurated the NDMC Tulip Festival - 2025 and both participated in Tulip walk.  They also visited Tulip exhibition organized by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Shanti Path, Chankyapuri in the presence of NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra and Vice Chairman Kuljeeet Singh Chahal.

After inaugurating the NDMC Tulip Festival, Saxena congratulated NDMC for its effort and the gardeners who have nurtured the flowers with hard work and have spread beauty here with the bloom of these flowers and said that this year 3.25 lakh tulips have been planted. Some Tulips have also been planted in 20 parks of DDA this time.

As many as 15, 000 tulips have been produced in Palanpur at Himachal Pardesh, developed in India itself which are also planted in New Delhi. Our aim is to minimize the dependence on imports in the next four years. He said we have to make Delhi more beautiful, for which such efforts will continue.  The friendship that has been formed with the Netherlands due to this cooperation, a tulip plant has been named "Maitri".

On the occasion, Ambassador of Netherlands said we're planting the tulips to celebrate, the friendship between our two countries. We could see that the city of Delhi was doing so well by growing the tulips. But, of course, there is much more that binds our two countries together than just tulips.

We share a strong and friendly relationship that goes back a long way. We collaborate in many important sectors, such as agriculture, health, water management, and innovation. We are very strong partners in these areas, she added.

After the success and appreciation from the large public of different walks of life in the last two years, NDMC is going to welcome the spring season with its blooming Tulips in the heart of Capital City of India – New Delhi by organizing its third  edition of NDMC Tulip Festival – 2025.

NDMC began planting its Tulip Bulbs in 2017-18 as a trial to assess the seasonal suitability. Starting with 17,000 bulbs of Tulip, this initiative has since grown significantly becoming an annual tradition of floral beautification of New Delhi. This initiative has proved a great success, making NDMC the first civic body in India to plant these precious flowers in public space.

This year, NDMC imported 3.25 Lakh Tulip Bulbs and planted 2.25 lakhs in open space in which 1.46 L akh Tulip Bulbs alone were planted at Shanti Path in Chankyapuri area.

As a trial through storage and multiplication, 10,880 large bulbs were produced and these also have been planted. In collaboration with the Institute of Himalayan Bio resources Technology – CSIR, 14735 Bulbs were produced at Palanpur in Himachal Pradesh and received to plant in this Tulip Festival.

For the first time NDMC has made the potted plants of one lakh Tulip Bulbs and has put it up for sale to make them available to the general public at Shanti Path Lawn, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden, Central Park, and NDMC nurseries (Safdarjung Madarsa, Gurudwara Park, Purana Quila Road etc).

In this spring session, the Tulip Bulbs are blooming at the different location of New Delhi area like Shanti Path Lawn, Central Park at Connaught Place, NDMC Convention Centre Lawn, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Sardar Patel Marg, Mandi House, Windsor Place, Shershah Suri Marg and at many Round Abouts.

New Delhi is adorned with vibrant shades of blooming Tulips in red, white, yellow, purple, pink, bicolor and orange. 

Tulips are now in full bloom adding a spectacular splash of color to prominent NDMC areas. The public is enjoying these floral displays in open spaces.

An exhibition is also organized based on the  history of Tulips and the variety of Tulips with  history of  monuments around the Shantipath that are displayed at Shantipath, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi in surrounding of the blooming Tulips.
