DDA's annual flower festival ‘Palaash' kicks off in Capital

After the successful phase one of Delhi Development Authority's (DDA) annual flower festival 'Palaash', the second phase of the grand event commenced on Friday at Smriti Van at Mayur Vihar Phase III in the national capital.

The annual festival is celebrated to welcome the onset of spring and bring people of Delhi closer to the nature.

Delhi Lieutenant  Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena visited 'Palaash' and appreciated the hard work of team DDA in organising the festival.

He facilitated the winners of various competitions and urged them to continue working for the beautification of the national capital.

"The government is working relentlessly for the sustainable development of the national capital. I assure the people of Delhi that many such projects will be undertaken in the future to work towards Green Delhi," he said.

The flower festival is celebrated each year since 2023.

However, this year for the first time, it is being celebrated at two locations.

The first phase of the 'Palaash' festival was celebrated at Dwarka on February 22 and 23 while the second phase to be organised on February 28, March 1 and 2.

The theme of 'Palaash 2025' is "pollution free, healthy living" and is named 'Palaash' after the flower of butea monosperma, which blooms in the capital during this time.

Over 50,000 people are expected to visit 'Palaash' in the two phases.

The three-day event of the second phase will have plethora of activities, which include nature walks, cultural programme, terracotta pot decoration competition, headgear design competition, flower rangoli competition, among others.

Besides, many competitions have been made open to public which include flowering pot plants, foliage pot plant, vegetable pot plant, garden in containers, flower arrangement for interior decor.

This provides platform for nature enthusiasts to showcase their creativity and horticultural skills.

Besides, there are all day activities, which include food stalls, pottery, swings and rides.

Smriti Van was created on the theme of "Plant a tree in the memory of loved ones" and thereby creating a green area with dense tree cover.

Smriti Van, Kondli Gharoli, Mayur Vihar phase three is one of the largest green area of East Delhi spread over an area of approx 58 acres.

The park is lush green with a number public amenities like open gym, children play area, shelter, toilet, multi-purpose play field etc.

A large water body covering approximately 10 acres is spread in the green.
