On the call of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), demonstrations were held at the UP district headquarters, DM offices, district executive engineer Offices, and block headquarters against the privatisation of electricity.
A memorandum was submitted to the UP chief minister. As per the pre-decided programme, on Thursday, CPI(M) workers staged protests and raised slogans in Lucknow, Sultanpur, Jaunpur, Allahabad, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Ghazipur, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Ambedkarnagar, Azamgarh, Faizabad, Rae Bareli, Etawah, Mathura, Agra, Kasganj, Varanasi, Allahabad, Farrukhabad, and Etah, submitting a memorandum addressed to the chief minister.
In the meetings held at the protest sites, speakers criticised the government’s decision to increase the burden on the public by raising electricity prices. Through the protest meetings, they demanded that the government withdraw the implementation of smart meters.
