After enduring scorching heat, Madhya Pradesh is set to experience much-needed relief as the Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm and lightning warning for isolated areas in the next 24 hours. Affected districts include Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, and Maihar.
The weather changed abruptly with total cloud cover in the State capital on Sunday, providing some respite from the intense heat. Although the day temperature remained close to 40°C on Saturday, Sunday saw partly cloudy skies, which made the conditions more pleasant. Narmadapuram recorded a day temperature of 39.8°C, while Bhopal saw a dip in mercury to 35.2°C, offering some relief to residents. This change in weather was especially welcomed by those fasting during Ramadan, as the hot and humid conditions eased up during the middle of the fasting month.
Before Sunday’s shift, temperatures across the state had ranged between 37°C and 40°C, but with the change, they now hover between 34°C and 37°C. This decline in temperature was a welcome change for the people in the region, who had been struggling with the extreme heat. In the next two days, a further drop of 2 to 3 degrees in both day and night temperatures is expected.
Between March 18 and 19, light rain showers are likely in parts of Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, Indore, Bhopal, Shahdol, and Gwalior divisions. On March 19, moderate showers are anticipated, especially in the eastern parts of the state. The change in weather is attributed to a cyclonic circulation system over Rajasthan, which has been causing cloud cover in some areas and light drizzles in others. This system is expected to persist for a couple of days, bringing further cooling effects to the region.
Despite the hot temperatures that have surpassed 39°C in many cities and nights that remain warm, the overall weather pattern has shifted in the last few days, offering a much-needed break. The combination of cloud cover, occasional rain, and the active system will ensure a gradual decrease in temperatures for the entire state in the coming days.
