Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday revised workers’ salaries following the Labour Department’s order to increase daily wage earners’ pay. The revised wages will be applicable from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
Under the new structure, unskilled workers will now receive Rs 11,850 per month, while highly skilled workers will be paid Rs 16,194. Semi-skilled workers will get Rs 12,846, and skilled workers will earn Rs 14,569 monthly. This translates to a daily wage ranging from Rs 395 to Rs 539.80. Additional Commissioner Varun Awasthi issued the order.
The wage hike follows a government decision on April 1, 2024, based on recommendations from the Minimum Wage Advisory Board. While workers received revised wages for April in May, the Textile Association of Pithampur Industrial Area challenged the notification in the Indore Bench of the High Court. The court delivered its verdict on February 10. The High Court directed that wages for textile, footwear, and certain industrial units be re-evaluated. However, for all other industries, the Labour Department upheld the April 1, 2024, wage structure. Orders are now being issued municipality-wise and department-wise for its implementation.
