A case of fraud has been reported in the Chhola Mandir area, where a BJP member was allegedly cheated by a close friend, who siphoned off Rs 2.31 lakh from his PhonePe account. The accused, identified as Tarun Kushwaha, is currently absconding, and police have launched a search operation to arrest him.
According to Chhola Mandir police station in-charge Suresh Chandra Nagar, the victim, Naresh Shrivas, who serves as the booth president of the BJP, filed a complaint stating that Kushwaha, a tent house operator, had opened a bank account and activated PhonePe on his mobile in July 2024. Shrivas alleged that Kushwaha fraudulently transferred Rs 2.31 lakh from his account to his own. When confronted and asked to return the money, Kushwaha allegedly refused.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Authorities have assured that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused. The incident has raised concerns over digital payment security and trust in financial transactions among acquaintances.
