Politics is going on in Karnataka over giving 4% reservation to Muslims in government contracts. BJP is opposing it while Congress and other non-BJP parties are supporting it. This issue which started from Karnataka and reached Jharkhand is gaining momentum. Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has criticized it and said that there is no provision in the Constitution that there should be reservation on the basis of religion.
The Leader of Opposition said that despite there being no provision in the Constitution, it has been decided to give 4% reservation to Muslims in government contracts in Karnataka. This shows that the Constitution should be amended. He said that it has been the habit of Congress to twist the Constitution. Babulal Marandi has said that the government should identify non-veg shops at the places where worship is done during Navratri.
Congress leader and state Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has supported giving 4% reservation to Muslims in Karnataka and said that Muslims are treated step-motherly in BJP ruled states. They are oppressed and their rights are snatched away. Due to this, Muslims there have become the lowest in the society. He said that the Congress government never discriminated and worked to take everyone along.
Responding to the question of journalists, Irfan Ansari said that if the government takes such a step in Jharkhand too, he will support it. Targeting the BJP, he said that in BJP ruled states, the house of Muslims is demolished and bulldozers are used, this is not right. The Bharatiya Janata Party ruled Jharkhand for 18 years and made Muslims poor. He said that he would like that all sections of the society get respect and their rights should not be snatched away.
