The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jamshedpur office, organized a Manak Manthan session on Wednesday at the Conference Hall, JDBO. The session centered around the Draft Indian Standard for ferro alloys and engaged industry stakeholders in meaningful discussions.
The session covered a range of important draft standards on Ferro-Alloys that came under Mandatory Certification vide Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 and are implemented w.e.f. 08 November 2024. These Ferro-Alloys include Ferromanganese (IS 1171), Silico manganese (IS 1470), and Ferrochrome (IS 1170). These standards are crucial for the steel industry as raw materials for ensuring quality and consistency in production processes.
The meeting was presided over by Kunal Kumar, Director and Head of BIS Jamshedpur, who highlighted the importance of the Manak Manthan Programme. The programme aimed towards qualitative improvements in standardization processes as well as comprehensive engagement with the various stakeholders leading to standards that are reflective of technological advancements and aligned to the current needs. Kumar emphasized the role of such initiatives in fostering industry engagement and ensuring the continuous improvement of standards
A total of 20 representatives from industries attended the event. The participants actively contributed to a detailed study of the proposed standards, providing valuable insights and suggestions that will help shape the future of these standards. The session offered a platform for industry professionals to engage in open discussions about the draft standards and their implications for the sector.
Manak Manthan serves as a key platform for promoting active collaboration between stakeholders and the BIS, enabling valuable input on draft standards. Through this initiative, BIS aims to improve the standardization process, ensuring that it remains reflective of technological advancements while addressing the current challenges faced by the industry.
The Manak Manthan sessions, held regularly by BIS, are an essential part of its ongoing efforts to bring standards closer to industry users and facilitate adoption. By incorporating feedback from stakeholders, BIS aims to ensure that the formulation and revision of standards effectively address both current and future industry needs.
