The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) upon Atanu Bhowmick, former Director In-Charge of SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The honor was presented by Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati at BPUT’s 11th Convocation on February 5, 2025.
A second-generation steel expert, Bhowmick began his career at RSP in 1988 after earning a B.Tech in Metallurgy from NIT Rourkela. He served as Director In-Charge of RSP from 2022 to 2024 and also held additional charge of Bokaro Steel Plant.
Recognized for his leadership in Blast Furnace Technology and sustainable initiatives, Bhowmick has received several accolades, including the IIM-TSL New Millennium Award (2022) and Inspirational Corporate Leader award (2024).
