Punjab Police’s Special State Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, has arrested two individuals involved in a grenade attack on the Gumtala Police Post in Amritsar earlier this month. The arrested persons have been identified as Bagga Singh from Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Sirsa, Haryana, and Puskaran Singh alias Sagar from Amarkot, Amritsar.
The duo was apprehended following an intensive investigation that traced their connection to the USA-based drug smuggler Sarwan Bhola and Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passian, who are alleged to have coordinated terror activities across the region, said the state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
In addition to the arrests, Punjab Police seized a hand grenade and two sophisticated pistols, along with ammunition, from their possession, a significant recovery that highlighted the dangerous nature of the group’s operations.
The attack on the Gumtala Police Post, which took place on January 9, 2025, involved the hurling of a hand grenade, an act that was later claimed by the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) on social media.
DGP Yadav said that investigations revealed that Bagga Singh is related to Sarwan Bhola, who is the brother of notorious drug smuggler Ranjit Singh alias Cheeta. The latter is currently incarcerated in Bathinda jail in connection with a massive heroin haul of 532 kg.
