What began as a peaceful celebration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary took a tragic turn late Monday night in Morena district, after a rally turned into a violent clash, resulting in one death and two injuries.
The incident occurred in the Hingona Khurd area under the jurisdiction of Civil Lines Police Station. The rally, organized by members of the Jatav community, featured DJ music and was part of their Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations. However, tensions flared when members of the neighbouring Gurjar community raised objections to the loud music, citing a birthday celebration in their household.
The disagreement over noise levels quickly escalated into a verbal altercation, which soon spiraled out of control. According to police sources, the situation reached a flashpoint when some youths from the Gurjar community reportedly opened fire.
One young man from the Jatav community was fatally shot and died on the spot. Another sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand and, after receiving initial treatment at the District Hospital in Morena, was referred to Gwalior for further care. A third individual also sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, citing heightened tension in the village. In response to the violence, additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Heavy security has been put in place to prevent further escalation, and police have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
This was the second major violent incident reported in Morena over the weekend. On Sunday, a clash erupted in Dwarkapura village of Dimni block following a dispute over water. Armed with sticks, members of both sides engaged in a 20-minute brawl, leaving several people injured, including women. A video of the altercation has since gone viral on social media.
Authorities are on high alert in the district, with efforts underway to restore peace and ensure the safety of all residents.
