The Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine of the AIIMS Bhopal successfully organized a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and workshop on Cervical Cytology Saturday. The academic event witnessed enthusiastic participation from postgraduate students, faculty members, and practicing pathologists from various institutes across Madhya Pradesh and the country. The primary objective was to strengthen diagnostic capabilities and provide updates on the latest advances in cervical cancer screening and cytopathology.
The event was inaugurated in the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Prof. Singh emphasized the significance of early detection and upskilling in the field of women's health. He stated, "Cervical cancer remains one of the leading cancers among women, and timely screening and accurate diagnosis are key to prevention and treatment. Workshops like these empower healthcare professionals with updated knowledge and practical skills, ultimately enhancing patient care. AIIMS Bhopal remains committed to such impactful academic initiatives." The scientific sessions featured enlightening lectures from renowned experts including Prof. Sandeep Mathur (AIIMS Delhi), Prof. Roobina Khan (JNMC, AMU Aligarh), and Dr. Suprita Nayak (GMC Nagpur). In-house speakers Dr. Vaishali Walke and Dr. Jai Kumar Chaurasia also delivered insightful talks.
Key topics covered included The Bethesda System, sample collection techniques, epithelial and glandular abnormalities, and the role of HPV testing and biomarkers in cervical cancer detection. Workshop highlights included hands-on demonstrations of Liquid-Based Cytology (ThinPrep), glass slide viewing sessions, expert-led case discussions, and practical exposure to current cytological techniques. The academic event was meticulously coordinated under the leadership of Prof. Vaishali Walke (Organizing Chairperson), Dr. Jai Kumar Chaurasia (Organizing Secretary), and Dr. Shakti Kumar Yadav (Joint Secretary), supported by a dynamic organizing team.
