AAP councillors switch to BJP ahead of polls

Saturday, 18 January 2025 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

In a setback to the AAP ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, two of its councillors, Ravinder Solanki and Narender Girsa, joined the BJP on Friday in the presence of Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra.

West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat was also present when Solanki, an MCD councillor from Baprola ward, and Girsa, from Manglapuri, officially joined the BJP. Both wards fall under Sehrawat's constituency.

Sehrawat stated that both councillors were among the founding members of the Aam Aadmi Party but had become disillusioned with the party's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal's politics and policies. "Solanki and Girsa have not changed sides; Kejriwal has changed, which forced them to leave the party," she explained.

Sachdeva welcomed both councillors by draping them with party scarves and criticized the Delhi government under AAP, describing it as a "corruption-driven administration" for the past 10 years. He emphasized that every plan of the Delhi government has been marred by corruption.

"As the election date nears, those committed to improving Delhi and contributing to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are aligning themselves with the BJP," he said, praising Girsa and Solanki for their service to their wards and constituencies. He highlighted the trust and recognition they have earned through their work.

Delhi BJP President Sachdeva added, "On February 5, when votes are cast, the end of AAP's disaster will begin. Delhi will witness a double-engine government, leading to development work progressing at double the speed."
