4 held in Palamu for looting ceremony photographer

Wednesday, 16 April 2025 | PNS | Daltonganj

Panki police in Palamu district have cracked a new fashion crime unheard of till the day it was committed or unfolded. It was almost a reel crime of any Hindi blockbuster. Equally sharp and precise was the action of the police. It solved the case as fast as it happened.

A ceremony photographer was booked and paid online for photo shoots and video shots of a marriage ceremony. The ceremony photographer was picked up by the four in a luxury car assuring him that all five were going to a popular Mandir at Chandwa in Latehar district but when the car reached a desolate road called Karee Matee under the Palamu district the four began to heckle the photographer, looted his video camera, photo camera and iPhone and decamped with the booty leaving behind the photographer lone and dejected on the road.

Officer in charge of the Panki police station Rajesh Ranjan told this correspondent today "Manoj Kumar is a ceremony photographer. He was booked online for marriage coverage. He was paid 500 rupees online too."

Manoj Kumar was asked to wait. The four pulled in a luxury car and took along with him this photographer. It all happened on April 13.

The four convinced Manoj that they were going to a famous and popular Mandir at Nagar under the Chandwa police station limits in Latehar district.

Police officer Ranjan said "Once their car reached Karee Matee road under Palamu district, the four got down saying they were to ease themselves. Manoj couldn't smell any rat."

Soon the four swooped down on Manoj. He was slapped. He was stripped of his video camera, photo camera and iPhone. He was warned not to report to the police. Police officer Rajesh Ranjan said "The incident is of April 13. Manoj showed courage. He lodged the FIR on April 14 with the Panki police station." Panki police registered his FIR under section 309 of the BNS on April 14.  It didn't take us any more time to nab the four, added Rajesh Ranjan.Police recovered the looted video camera, photo camera and iPhone.

Police also seized the luxury car with which the four had come and collected Manoj for a marriage shoot which was a deception to loot him.

The four arrested have been identified as Sushil, Chunu, Rahul and Rajan all in their twenties and coming from Tarhassi police station limits, who were remanded to judicial custody today April 15 in Daltonganj said the police officer Rajesh Ranjan.
