The Department of Biochemistry of AIIMS Bhopal successfully concluded the XIII Annual International Conference of the Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences (IABSCON 2025), held from February 11-13, 2025.
The conference opened new doors for possibilities in the field of health sciences through scientific discussions, international collaborations, and presentations of the latest research. This platform brought together scientists, industry experts, and young researchers, covering significant topics such as cancer biology, precision medicine, immunology, metabolomics, nanotechnology, and biomedical engineering.
The final day program began with a lecture by Prof. Vipul Bansal (Australia), who highlighted the emerging use of nan enzymes and nanomaterials in diagnostics and therapeutics. Other key speakers included Prof. Antonio Cheung (Taiwan), who explained that BIRC5 plays a crucial role in cancer cells, and its regulation could lead to revolutionary changes in cancer treatment. Prof Peter van de Wustijne (Netherlands) mentioned that advanced surgical techniques could make the treatment of congenital heart diseases in children more effective and safer.
Meanwhile, Prof. N. B. Ramchandra (University of Mysore, India) shared his thoughts, stating that the progress made in this field over the past 20 years has greatly improved our understanding of the genetic causes of heart diseases.
On the final day, sessions focused on cancer biology, immunology, nano-biotechnology, smart biomaterials, and precision medicine. Prominent presentations included Prof. Rakesh K. Maji (IIT Kanpur) discussing the role of ion channels and GPCRs in cancer immunotherapy, Dr. Ali Alizadeh (Iran) presenting his research on "AI-powered predictive modeling for personalized cancer treatment," and Dr. Denis Shashurin (Russia) discussing the development of implantable systems for photon-counting CT scanning.
In an industry-related session, Dr. Wahid Wali (Abbot India Pvt. Ltd.) delivered a lecture on "Pharmaceutical Innovation and Biomarker-Based Therapy." Additionally, the General Body Meeting of IABS was held, where future research plans were discussed.
On this occasion, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal Prof Ajai Singh stated, "This conference of IABSCON-2025 provides a shared platform for the latest research happening in the fields of medicine and biotechnology.
