Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey today said that the goal of the department is to make Jharkhand self-reliant in seed production in the coming time.
Tirkey said this in a review meeting with officials regarding Animal Welfare Board and Seed Corporation at the Animal Husbandry Directorate in Ranchi. Her round of plan review meetings is going on.
During the meeting, the Minister said that today many states of the country are not only self-reliant in seed production, but they are also supplying seeds to other states. "On the other hand, Jharkhand is still dependent on other states in terms of seeds. The department spends lakhs and crores of rupees every year on seed purchase and distribution. The goal of the department is to make Jharkhand self-reliant in seed production in the coming time," she said.
Tirkey has said that recently the team of the department had visited Karnataka with her. "The policy and research that Karnataka is adopting in seed production needs to be adopted. Only then will Jharkhand be able to create its own identity in seed distribution," she added.
After the meeting, the Minister said that a big seminar will soon be organized with NGOs working on the ground for animal welfare. "The department does not have a lot of information related to animals, but the NGO is continuously working on it. Their work is also visible at the ground level. Therefore, the department will take advantage of the NGO's experience and studies done on animal welfare," she added.
