Modi slams Kejriwal’s poison claims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday slammed the AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal over his claim that the Haryana government poisoned Yamuna to disrupt Delhi’s water supply, saying he is too drinking Yamuna water.

Terming his allegations disgusting, the Prime Minister said he too drinks the same water from the Yamuna River and asked whether Haryana BJP will try to kill him. Speaking at a rally in Kartar Nagar, Ghonda, ahead of the Delhi assembly polls, Modi said such remarks were an insult to the country.

“AAP-DA people have committed another grave sin in their political interest which can never be forgiven. Delhi and the country cannot forget that a former Chief Minister of Delhi has made disgusting allegations against the people of Haryana,” he said, addressing a public meeting in Kartar Nagar in the run-up to the February 5 assembly polls.

He claimed that Kejriwal is making such statements due to the fear of defeat. “I myself drink the same water, so can anyone think that the Haryana BJP government will poison Modi? Forgiving mistakes is the generous character of the citizens of India, but neither Delhi nor the country ever forgives those who commit sins deliberately,” he said.

“This is not just an insult to Haryana; it is an insult to Indians, to our values and character. This is the country where giving water to drink is considered a religion, where there is a tradition of keeping a piau (water pot). Putting such false allegations on the countrymen is just a fear of losing elections but this time Delhi will definitely teach a lesson to those who talk such cheap things,” PM Modi claimed, adding that the people of Delhi will drown the AAP in the Yamuna.

Kejriwal had alleged that the BJP is trying to keep the people of Delhi thirsty as it indulges in “dirty politics”. “BJP people in Haryana are mixing poison in the water and sending it to Delhi. If people in Delhi drink this water, many will die. Can anything be more disgusting than this,” the AAP chief had said on X.

He also likened AAP leaders to serial killer Charles Sobhraj, who gained notoriety for duping people. “Those who built ‘sheesh mahal’ and those who looted public money worth thousands of crores of rupees can never think of the welfare of the poor. That is why they are spreading lies in Delhi. These AAP-da people speak lies with such innocence that people get trapped,” Modi said.

Delhi has made it clear that now excuses, fake promises as well as “loot and lies” of the “AAP-da” government will not work, Modi said as he made a fervent appeal to voters to give him a chance to serve after 25 years of Congress and AAP governments.

Further hitting out at the AAP, Modi said that during the last two elections, the party asked for votes on the promise of cleaning the Yamuna and now it says that the issue does not yield votes. “This is fraud and shamelessness. They want to make people struggle for water and want Purvanchalis to chhathi maiya’s puja surrounded by garbage,” he said.

“When it comes to Delhi, someone ruled for 14 years and someone for 11 years but still the same jams, the same broken streets, pollution and drinking water issues. Who can take people out of such circumstances? Not Modi but one vote of yours,” he said.

Modi urged people to give him a chance. “I will take care of you like a family member, your dream will be my dream and I will put in all efforts to fulfil your dreams. The BJP has a track record of fulfilling its promises,” he said.

He asked the people of Delhi to vote for change, emphasizing that BJP’s track record shows they fulfill their promises. He cited successful programs like the water connection scheme that delivered water to 12.9 crore families in five years.

He assured that the BJP will provide clean drinking water to every household in Delhi, just as they have done in rural areas. Modi also highlighted the BJP’s work on infrastructure projects like expressways and metro connectivity, pledging to transform Delhi into a world-class city.

“If the BJP government opens a bank account, it will send the money to it. The sisters of Delhi do not trust the AAP and are asking why you are making announcements even after being in power for 11 years and not implementing them. Why has the money not come to the accounts even after announcing it three years ago in Punjab and in Delhi?” he questioned.

“Rs 2,500 will be deposited in the accounts of sisters; Rs 21,000 will be given to pregnant women so that they can eat nutritious food. The AAP has realised its defeat, the public is angry with each of its MLAs, so AAP and Congress have formed an alliance with each other behind the scenes,” the PM added.
