Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday framed his governance as a turning point for Bareilly’s identity. “Earlier, Bareilly was known for the ‘Jhumka’ song, but we have restored its historical significance by developing the Nath Corridor as ‘Nathnagari.’ Today, it is progressing as a model of development, attracting industries and investment,” he said.
“This is the same Bareilly where riots were once common. Not a single riot has taken place in the last eight years. The rioters now hide like rats in their burrows because they know the consequences. If they attempt to disturb peace, their property will be seized and distributed among the poor,” he warned.
He also launched a sharp attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of being indifferent to cow protection and aligning with those running illegal slaughterhouses.
Speaking at a public rally in Bareilly College Ground, the Chief Minister linked Yadav’s past policies with what he described as a systemic neglect of Hindu traditions and law enforcement.
“Akhilesh Yadav finds cow dung smell unbearable, but this is his reality because he handed over cows to butchers.
When we shut down illegal slaughterhouses, he was the one most disturbed,” Yogi said, as he accused the previous
SP government of fostering an environment where illegal practices thrived.
CM Yogi pointed out that those with ties to cow smugglers and butchers would never understand the service of cows. “They only see the smell in cow dung, but they don’t see the foul smell in their actions,” he added.
The Chief Minister contrasted the present-day law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh with that of the SP regime, claiming that communal riots had become a thing of the past under his leadership. He issued a stern warning to rioters, stating that anyone attempting to instigate unrest would have their property seize.
In addition to political attacks, the Chief Minister highlighted his government’s focus on infrastructure, cow protection, and employment. He noted that 7,700 cow shelters have been set up across the state and that a financial assistance scheme of ?1,500 per month has been introduced for those taking care of stray cattle.
During the event, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 132 development projects worth Rs 933 crore. He emphasised that Bareilly is emerging as a Smart City on both national and international platforms, fostering an investment-friendly environment in sectors like dairy, healthcare, and industry, thereby creating new job opportunities.
On this occasion, CM Yogi flagged off 2,554 new ambulances equipped with state-of-the-art life-saving facilities. He also launched the statewide ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ and flagged off the ‘Special Communicable Disease Control Campaign.’ He also distributed stationery, textbooks, and toffees to the newly enrolled children. He called on the people of Bareilly and Uttar Pradesh to join the campaign and ensure that no child is left behind in going to school.
“This is not just the government’s responsibility, but also society’s,” he said. “If any child is deprived of education, it becomes a challenge for both society and the nation.”
The CM said that the goal is to provide education from pre-primary to senior secondary (nursery to 12th grade)- all in one campus. This will include facilities for sports, skill development, and having full-time teachers. Additionally, residential arrangements for teachers will also be made. “We are moving forward with this program and campaign to ensure a comprehensive educational experience for children,” he added.
Calling health as important as education, CM Yogi also launched the ‘Special Communicable Disease Control Campaign’ from Bareilly.
