In a major relief for the parents of the raped and murdered lady doctor of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday took note of the plea presented by the petitioners that there was a need of a further probe into the matter to ascertain the alleged role of some other persons.
“Without making comments, we dispose of the application (of the parents) observing that the applicants have the liberty to pursue the proceedings before the high court,” the Bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna said. The Apex Court order comes as a relief for the parents of the victim as a separate plea from their side seeking a further court-monitored CBI probe into the incident was pending in the Calcutta High Court. The latter Court had earlier ruled that since a parallel hearing was going on in the Supreme Court it would only hear the case if the Apex Court allowed it to do so. The victim’s parents were unhappy with the CBI probe and had moved the Apex Court seeking a further probe into the case. The Supreme Court however held that the hearing that was going on before it in Delhi would continue as usual. “We have lost everything, all reasons to be happy. Now we have only one goal and that is to get the guilty punished. So we have staked everything to seek justice and get the guilty punished. We want real investigation and not an eyewash,” the mother of the victim doctor who was brutally raped and murdered inside the chest medicine department of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last August triggering a nationwide stir said.
