In what is becoming a disturbingly recurring feature, Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Monday received yet another death threat — this time on the mobile number of the Mumbai Traffic police — in which an unknown person warned the actor that miscreants would enter his Bandra residence and would blow up his car.
Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Datta Kamble said: “We have registered a case and investigations are in progress”.
The Worli police station has registered an FIR against unidentified person(s) under sections 351(2) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In the WhatsApp message, the person(s) threatened Salman Khan that the miscreants would "barge into his house" and "blow up his car with a bomb”.
Owing to the repeated threats received by him over the recent years, the actor has been provided security by the Protection Branch of Mumbai Police. Besides, he has also upgraded his private security. He now travels in a bullet proof car.
Salman Khan and his script writer-father Salim Khan have been facing multiple threats and attacks, from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and even some wannabe law-breakers who have targeted the celeb duo in recent years.
In the previous threat message received by the Mumbai traffic police on October 18, 2024, a gangster close to Lawrence Bishnoi demanded `5 crore from Khan as extortion money. Among other things, the gangster asked the actor to end his long-standing rivalry with incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
The Bishnoi gang member warned the traffic police in his text message saying: "Don't take it lightly, if Salman Khan wants to stay alive and wants to end the enmity with Lawrence Bishnoi, then he will have to pay `5 crore. If the money is not given, Salman Khan's condition will be worse than Baba Siddique."
It may be recalled that on April 14, 2024, two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants, who were covering their faces with helmets, had opened four rounds of fire outside his Bandra (west) residence “Galaxy Apartment” in north-west Mumbai in the early hours of Sunday, before speeding away immediately after the shoot-out.
Following the incident in which Bishnoi gang members were allegedly involved, the Navi Mumbai police registered a case against 18 identified accused and others of the gang for hatching a conspiracy to kill the actor. Bishnoi is currently lodged in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat in a drugs case. His name had cropped during the course of investigations into the death threat letter received by Salim Khan, as the letter contained the initial LB. Even in the past, Bishnoi had vowed to kill Salman Khan after the actor was named as an accused in the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan.
On November 29, 2023, the Mumbai police had enhanced the security provided to Bollywood super star Salman Khan after he allegedly received yet another threat from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. This came after Bishnoi — in a post put out on Facebook — had claimed responsibility for killing Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Canada on May 29 2022. In his Facebook post, Bishnoi had also threatened that Salman Khan would meet the same fate as singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
Earlier in March 2023, the Mumbai had registered an FIR against gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar and another person under Indian Penal Code sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 506-II (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention), after an e-mail threatening Salman was received at his office.
The FIR was based on a complaint lodged with the Bandra Police by one Prashant Gunjalkar, who runs an artist management company and who used to visit the actor’s office frequently.
In June 2022, the Mumbai police had beefed up security around Salman’s Bandra residence “Galaxy Apartments” at Bandra in north-west Mumbai, in the wake of death threats to him and his writer-father Salim Khan, following an alleged threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Bishnoi’s name had cropped during the course of investigations into the death threat letter received by Salim Khan, as the letter contained the initial LB. Even in the past, Bishnoi had vowed to kill Salman Khan after the actor was named as an accused in the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan.
Bishnoi had — during a questioning conducted in 2021 — reportedly confessed to have conspired to kill Salman Khan. During the questioning, Bishnoi had admitted to having hired Sampat Nehra, a gangster from Rajasthan, to kill Salman Khan.
Nehra had allegedly travelled to Mumbai and carried out reconnaissance around Salman Khan’s home. Nehra could not accomplish the task assigned to him by Bishnoi as he could not get a clear shot of the actor from his pistol.
