Less than 24 hours after the Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the security forces to further intensify the anti-terror operations in the Jammu region, the two groups of terrorists were trapped at two separate locations in the Joffer area of Ramnagar tehsil in Udhampur district and Naithe dgam area of Chatroo in the Kishtwar district on Wednesday.
Till the time of filing the report, the encounters at both places were going on.
According to initial reports, the security forces were conducting search operations in the Joffer Marta area of Ramnagar after receiving inputs about the suspected movement of terrorists in the area, when the first contact was established with the terrorists.
“During a search operation by JKP and other security forces, contact was established with terrorists at village Jopher, PS Ramnagar, Udhampur. 2/3 terrorists were trapped. Firing going on”, the Udhampur police said on X.
The security forces believe it is the same group of terrorists that is still at large and was earlier spotted in the Majalta area bordering Kathua and Udhampur districts a few days ago. According to local villagers of the Majalta area, the terrorists had run away after collecting clothes, food, and a mobile handset.
According to official sources, when the security forces were combing the area, one of the area domination parties came under fire from hiding terrorists, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire.
In a swift response, the entire area was cordoned off, and additional troops were rushed to plug the gaps in the outer cordon.
Local reports also confirmed that several rounds of gunshots were heard early Wednesday morning around 11.00 am in the general area of Joffer.
Meanwhile, another gunfight erupted in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district late Wednesday evening. Security forces have reportedly cornered two to three terrorists near the Chatroo forest area.
According to sources, the group of terrorists trapped in the area was active for a long time and was responsible for targeting security forces in the region.
